The South Alpine Late
Palaeozoic plutonic rock that intruded into the pre-existing
metamorphic rock and was positioned at the southerly opening
of Val d'Ossola, furnish the classical triptych of white, pink
and green granites of a good consistency and compactness, and
that are easy to quarry, thereby making it an economically viable
commercial venture. From a geological standpoint, the rock is
the results of a Permian period large-scale magmatic cycle,
with an intermediate acid composition.
Currently, quarrying sites are exclusively located in the foothill
regions between Baveno, Gravellona and Mergozzo.
The quarrying basins for Montorfano Granite ( White Montorfano
and Verde Mergozzo).
And for Mottarone- Baveno (Pink Baveno, White Baveno, White
Mottarone and Pink Mottarone) permitted the production of top
quality materials possessing excellent technical characteristics,
that provided good results architecturally and ornamentally
in many places, even at distances from the quarries.

> Green Granite grey-greenish granite commercially
known as Mergozzo Green Granite. It is rich in chlorites which,
against a white background, creates its characteristic speckled
pattern, thereby making it a prestigious product.
|
> Baveno Pink Granite it has a medium coarse
grain, is regularly grained and possesses a holocrystalline
texture, against a glassy white background with pink
highlights and speckled in a more or less regular pattern
with black spots of biotite. It has industrial applications
( girders, street paving, etc.) as well as more prestigious
uses (portals, balconies, columns, flooring, etc.)
